About
Unclear is currently a work-in-progress, much like its author.Unlike its author, it is not a medical student in Tel Aviv who was born in Washington DC in 1979 nor did is attend Barnard College (BA ‘01), Columbia University (MPH ‘05) or serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa (’01-’03). Unclear however is allowing its author to spend a lot of time procrastinating while allowing her to practice writing in the third person. Please note that in this picture, taken in The Golan Heights on the Israeli-Syrian border, that I am 155K from J’town, 11,800k from the city of my birth and roughly 60k away from Damascus.

Found your blog today during one of those interesting Internet voyages where you start out researching one subject and then by a series of slight digressions…(well maybe not so slight)… you wind up in a totally different place. Kind of like an Internet wormhole.
I was originally looking up information on the persecution of the FLDS church in Texas and was distracted by an article on the now-dead Superconducting Supercollider project. A commenter on that article made reference to an obscure conspiracy website claiming that the SS Norway was blown up in Florida by al-Quaeda; that website had links to the Times of India’s articles describing how Western countries are dumping old ships laden with toxic chemicals and asbestos on the shores of India and other “Third World” countries; the article mentioned the Alang Shipbreakers; I went then to Google Maps to see if there were satellite images of the beached vessels at Alang (there were and are); and in the sidebar of Google Maps there was a link to your flickr site with the photos of your work at the health clinic at one of the “shipyards”!
Anyway, that led me to click on the links to your other work and here I am just writing to you to say: thank you for having dedicated your life to not just raising awareness of the many social crises constantly being created by the capitalist system around the world, but also in dedicating your life to making life better through your medical work around the world.
You and your colleagues are among the many, many unsung heroes working quietly around the world to help the suffering millions of workers trapped in terrible situations. Not seeking fame, not seeking wealth, never trying to be at the center of the world’s attention but often ending up there because you place yourselves on the front lines of where massive human suffering and the capitalist world’s meagre charity efforts meet.
Thanks for all the hard work & great photography and be sure that there are plenty of people out here who admire what you and your friends and colleagues are doing.
